About the Book
What inspired me, many years ago, to write The Lost Woman was Lynn H. Nicholas’s The Rape of Europa: The Fate of Europe’s Treasure in the Third Reich and the Second World War. At the time, I thought the story would make a fascinating novel with very little effort. Five years and many versions later, I finally called my book done.
An important influence for the character of Kenneth was James J. Rorimer’s account of his time as a Monuments Man, as well as Robert M. Edsel’s book, The Monuments Men. Kenneth is a composite of these men, and the stories of his discoveries are based on fact.
I went on to read more than thirty books on various aspects of the war and the German occupation of Paris to ensure historical accuracy.
About the Blog
I have a lot of opinions. And I’m a careful observer. One must be in order to write. Some of these opinions and observations may never make it into a book or essay or poem. This blog will be my place to store such things. I’d also like to share things I learned while researching The Lost Woman and talk about the writing process.
